A Little More Tchaikovsky

Tchaikovsky wrote a lot of music.  Here are a few more pieces that he wrote.

This video is the 1812 Overture.  It is very unique because he wrote in a part for CANNONS!

He also wrote the Swan Lake Ballet.  I found this video of the Chinese Acrobatic Ballet.  They combine dancing and acrobatics to create a very cool show!

Peter Tchaikovsky

The Musician of the Month for December is
Peter Tchaikovsky.

Peter Tchaikovsky is a composer who wrote music for the Nutcracker Ballet!

Here is a "How Its Made" video that shows how Nutcrackers are made!!

The entire Nutcracker is on YouTube Here.

Sweet Notes!

I love teaching elementary because my students make me feel like a rock star every day!!  Even when I'm feeling bad or not at my best, they still think I'm great.  Here are a few sweet notes that I have gotten over the past couple of weeks.

Name That Tune!

This week in music, 5th graders did an activity called Name That Tune.  They were given this:

First, they had to name all of the notes.  (we've been working hard to learn the Treble Clef notes)

Then, they chose a partner and an instrument.  They played each line on the xylophone and then guessed the name of the song!  They did great!!  I'm so proud of these musicians!!!

Recorder Karate!

We are also beginning Recorder Karate with 4th and 5th grades.  We are working hard to make it to black belt!

In the Recorder Karate program, there are 9 songs that represent the 9 belts.  Students work together in groups to play and test on each song.  When they have "mastered" the song, they test.  If they pass the test (play the song - notes and rhythms - correctly with good tone), they earn their belt.  The receive a colored strong to tie around their recorder and they get to "announce it to the world" by signing the poster in the hall!  This is a great program that my students love.  Some of them get very competitive.

Elvis Month

Well, its been a while!  I'm sorry that I haven't updated recently!

This month is Elvis month at DES.  Everyone around here knows how much Mrs. Stahl loves Elvis Presley.  And, he is our Musician of the Month for January.  You can see some videos on the Elvis tab at the top of the page.
